February 9, 2014: Regrets

Here's a shot I took back in high school of then my best friend, Jim Goldberg.  Like is so often the case, once we graduated our lives took us different directions and we never saw each other.  I kept thinking we should get back together, so a few years back I finally made a concerted effort to locate Jim, only to find out he had passed away months earlier.  I envy those who say they have no regrets.  Me....I've got a few.

The recent Facebook movie included 2 of my departed friends. I hate getting older but it beats the alternative.

Definition of age; your older family members pass, then some of your older (and sometimes younger)friends, then
one of your parents
and then some of your current in age friends. Those with whom we experienced our developing years often disappear and yet, we know who we are and how we arrived where we did.
A good friend owns four or five funeral homes here in Burlington and area, and he tells me the most difficult job is handling the affairs of his school chums, from his younger years, often younger in age than he is and he's the same age as I am. I can well understand.
