For years there was a large water tower at Merritt, on Washington's Stevens Pass. The old wood tower is long gone, but trains still occasionally have to stop to top off a leaky reservoir.

Although technically Amtrak, passenger trains crossing Stampede Pass on Labor Week-end, 1972 still had a BN and even NP look to them. Hard to believe that was 42 years ago.
